HAMANGIA FOUNDATION

The creation of a foundation bearing the name of Hamangia, under the effigy of the Thinker of Hamangia, was a constant dream of Patriciu Mateescu. In 1972, in Medgidia, a city close to the archaeological site of Hamangia, he organized, for the first time, the Hamangia Ceramic Symposium. However the establishing of the foundation had to wait more than 44 years to become reality in December 2016.
The Hamangia Foundation is going to maintain a significant involvement in activities designed to promote the art of Patriciu Mateescu including, but not limited to, the display of his work to the general public, loaning pieces of his work for exhibition, making such artwork available for study to scholars and students of art history, producing a monograph of his work for complementary placement in institutions of higher education, libraries and/or museums in the United States.
For a long time, Mateescu's work has been dedicated to enhance the beauty of nature and public architecture. In 1964 he made two impressive armchairs in Bechyne, Czechoslovakia, then in 1965 the Ballerinas at Tarnaveni followed by other works in Romania and USA.
